Mercury is the second smallest planet in our Solar System after pluto. It’s a dry, rocky and barren world with extreme temperatures. Its surface is marked with craters heavily just like moon. As its closest to the Sun, so it has the fastest orbit, taking just 88 days to complete on revolution around the Giant star. path of mecury Despite its such fast orbit, surprising Mercury moves very slowly on its axis, taking 59 days to make one full revolution ( giants as Jupiter take under 10 hours !! ) This means that two thirds of the way through its orbit, Mercury has only completed one revolution on its axis. This effect, combined with Mercury’s very thin atmosphere, produces dramatic temperature ranges on its surface. Here are some of its figures :-
