Did you know you can change your Google crawl rate? It’s true and you can do it in Google Webmaster Tools if you have an account.

The default setting for the Google crawl rate is to let Google determine how often it crawls your website. However, if you have special needs then you can set your own crawl rate. But I wouldn’t recommend changing this unless you understand the special needs of your server and you are an advanced webmaster.

To change your crawl rate, log in to your Google Webmaster Tools account and click on Settings. In these settings you can establish a geographic targeting area, set a preferred domain (using www or without www), and choosing a customized crawl rate. Find the crawl rate button and set it to “Set custom crawl rate”. Below the crawl rate button you’ll see two settings - requests per second and seconds between requests. Select the settings you desire that are faster or slower than the default rate and click “Save”.

If you are experiencing higher than expected volumes of traffic then you’ll want to have Google crawl your site less often. You may even want to slow down the requests per second. Slowing down your crawl rate will allow you to handle the increased traffic better on your site and this is a particularly handsome way to let Google know that you are seeing a spike in traffic due to increased PPC marketing or link bait that is working. If your site is not getting crawled or it is taking an extra long time to get indexed then you can increase your settings and invite Google to spend more time on your site to increase the number of your indexed pages.

Yesterday night I have some good conversations with some of my marketing buddies who seems too eager to explore the latest SEO Techniques and want to attain stable ranking on google. We start with some lighter moments of our personal lives , their marriage / ___ lives and regarding my Canadian interest and ofcourse my girlfriends- that sexy firebrand girl and Anjali . :D We discuss all options about current online business scenario and the chances of success through tricks, gimmicks and widgets.

It gives me a compelling reason to write something on what should be considered as best SEO Techniques. True SEO is a balance of many factors whose effectivity did vary from time to time and a multitude of white hat techniques – using unique content, frequent updates and Digging and stumbling inlinks, link bait pages, having others in your niche syndicate your content, squidoo, hubpages, social bookmarking, quality directories, commenting on blogs, forums… list goes on and on………..One must first optimize his website and make sure you don’t have under construction pages and then start link building.

Personally I always try to follow Google Guidelines and with continue work on site results come. This is the simple and easy trick for me. So building website which is loved and talked by visitors is the secret for accelerating traffic. But most people dont follow the basics. Onpage and offpage factors can be manipulated but in long run only quality content and user friendly site is what matters. There are some other things as well i.e. - Offering something of genuine use that your competitors haven’t thought of yet. - Undercutting your competitors and potentially taking a loss (special offers, pay to action, etc) - Harnessing an existing and very powerful relevant link profile. - Sending juice from authority websites. For sure you don’t need to employ them all. The real question becomes which of these techniques can be grouped to keep your SEO efforts efficient without investing more time than necessary ?

In Google’s official blog one of their fellow Amit Singhal of their ranking team throw some light on their ranking system of how they find most relevant documents according to user query. Google use same ranking algorithms with some modifications - for other Google search services, including Images, News, YouTube, Maps, Product Search, Book Search, and more.

What they seem put stress on is best local relevant results to serve global audience and no manual interventions. Google doesn’t reject the policy of action against sites with legal issues, child porn, viruses/malware, etc and on others which are against its webmaster policies.

So this is my blog. It’s very basic and boring as well. Anycase its ranking well for the keyword - SEO Company on Google.com (Its 23rd when I check it today. did vary a little often but is on 3rd page for 2nd week now). Take a look :-

….and as I mention in my earlier post that I did very little optimization for it and that too some 5 months back. So shall I try to get on front page of Google.com for this keyword and others as SEO, SEO services and Professional SEO Company as well as I have decent position on all of them. But obstacle is that I made it my personal blog and have no intention to convert it into an internet marketing site. I am just confused that how good to personalize the site. Yep individuality matters. http://www.seo-guru.net/ is a good inspiration – ranked 1st page all the time. Still I just can’t get it….how good is personal cum seo site. Not sure.

Press releases are one of the most conventional promotional mechanism which do generate healthy traffic to your website. They are very easy to create and distribute and are easily pick by search engines.

I got a push on this subject from one of my friend who converse me yesterday regarding writing some good press releases.

GOOD PRESS RELEASE – WELL WRITTEN | PRODUCT CENTRIC | ON TIME

So here is how it works. Firstly you must write some concise information about your release – sale, opening, announcement or any discount you are providing for a given period.

The content must be according to the taste of the audience and have proper grammar. Then compile a database of good online publications and look for editor who’s most likely to cover stories on your product / announcements/ services and send your story to them. Here is the list of few press releases sites:-

http://www.openpr.com

http://www.24-7pressrelease.com

http://www.newswiretoday.com

http://www.pressmethod.com

http://www.free-press-release.com

http://www.pr9.net

http://www.pr-inside.com

http://www.prfree.com

http://www.1888pressrelease.com

http://www.news.eboomwebsolutions.com

http://www.prnuke.com

http://www.bookhuntersblog.com

http://www.allthesebooks.com

http://www.webnewswire.com

http://www.ecommwire.com

http://www.express-press-release.com

http://www.free-news-release.com

http://www.free-press-release-center.info

http://www.freepressindex.com

http://www.freepressreleases.co.uk

http://www.prlog.org

http://www.prurgent.com

http://www.przoom.com

http://www.theopenpress.com

http://www.free-press-release.info

http://emailwire.com/

Most of these PR sites allow submissions free of cost. You shall also do online search to look for some other good ones as well.

Point to mind is if you are only doing press releases for gaining backlinks with SEO in mind and you have no real news for your audiences then its better not to use press release at all unless you have something remarkable to offer. So it’s good to check out this way of marketing as it’s a great source to accelerate substantial traffic within no time.
